Patrick County High School’s Lady Cougar soccer team defeated Tunstall last Wednesday night by a score of 2-1. Friday, PC fell to Bassett 1-7.

In Wednesday’s game against the Lady Trojans of Tunstall, Z Cole scored the first goal of the game off an assist from Brooke Holt with about 13 minutes in the first half.

At halftime the score remained 1-0. Candace Freeman got the next goal for the Lady Cougars about six minutes into the second half to make the score 2-0.

Tunstall scored about halfway into the second half to make the score 2-1.

Maya Watson recorded six saves for the night.

“I thought we did a great job holding them scoreless in the first half,” said Coach Sandra Rakes. “They managed to get the goal in the second half when they caught us out of position, and we didn’t recover quickly enough,” she added.

Rakes praised the Lady Cougars by saying, “Our passing looked really good tonight, and we were controlling the midfield pretty well.”

In Friday’s game against the Lady Bengals, Candace Freeman scored the lone Lady Cougar goal on a PK (penalty kick) when she was fouled in the box. Maya Watson and Caitlyn Hardy combined in goal for 17 saves.

“Our communication wasn’t as good tonight,” Rakes said. “We kept bunching up and leaving people open. We had a few good shots on goal but, weren’t able to make them count,” she added.

The Lady Cougars traveled to Magna Vista Tuesday afternoon and will host Halifax Thursday afternoon.
