A Stuart man is being held without bond following an August 23 incident, according to a release from Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith.

George Kevin Rucker is being held with no bond.
George Kevin Rucker is being held with no bond.

George Kevin Rucker, 42, of 174 Developmental Drive, was arrested on August 25 and charged with attempted murder, abduction, malicious wounding, strangulation and domestic assault and battery in connection with the incident, Smith said.

A criminal complaint filed by sheriff’s investigator Tennille Jessup alleged that Rucker repeatedly told a female victim that he was going to kill her, and then strangled and beat the victim with a hammer while forcing her to remain in the residence.

Smith said the victim sustained serious injuries and was treated at Martinsville SOVAH Hospital.

Rucker and the victim were involved in a relationship, Smith said, adding “we are fortunate that this didn’t manifest into a homicide.”
