Sadie Vernon, left, and Emily Wood, right, prepare submarine sandwiches Saturday evening at Providence United Methodist Church. Providence UMC surpassed its goal this year by 100 sandwiches. The volunteer crew made, sold and delivered 450 subs on Sunday and Monday to area homes and businesses. A fund-raising effort that’s been going for 25 years, the sandwich sales go to support community programs such as Caring Hearts Free Clinic, the backpack weekend snacks program for students, Patrick County Food Pantry, and the Alzheimer’s Group. The church also hopes to use some of the funds to repave its parking lot.
