Firefighters from seven volunteer fire departments battled a forest fire off Rt. 103 on March 16, according to a report from CCDF Volunteer Fire Department Chief Randy Burge.
The fire call went out around 1:30 p.m. and CCDF responded, along with volunteers and equipment from Ararat Volunteer Fire Department, Stuart VFD, Meadows of Dan VFD, Patrick Springs VFD, Moorefield Store VFD, and Four-Way VFD from Surry County, N.C., Burge said.
The Virginia Department of Forestry also assisted in extinguishing the fire.
The fire, which occurred at the intersection of Rt. 103 and Dan Valley Farm Road, started in a power line cut and spread into the adjoining woods, Burge said.
Because there was insufficient parking space for all the fire trucks, a portion of the road had to be closed for about an hour, Burge said.
