A busy week for the Patrick County High School Lady Cougar softball team resulted in three victories for the players.
Last Tuesday PC defeated the Lady Bengals of Bassett 3-0.
PC came out and scored two runs in the first inning and the third run in the second inning.
Sydney Biggs walked and then scored on her twin sister’s RBI triple.
“This was all the offense we needed as Cassidy Largen shut out the Lady Bengals,” said Coach Roger Wilson. Bassett had only one hit and two batters reached base on walks. Largen struck out a career-high 19 batters.
Makenzie Watts went 2-3, scoring one run. Zoe Hutchens went 1-3 with two RBIs.
Wednesday, the Lady Cougars defeated Floyd 9-8 in nine innings.
Patrick County had one big inning in the second where each batter went to the plate that inning. They tallied five hits and scored five runs.
The Lady Buffaloes also had a big inning in the bottom of the inning and got seven runs off four hits. By the end of the inning, the score was 7-6 with the Lady Buffs leading.
The Lady Cougars came back in the third and got two more runs to go up, but so did Floyd. The game stayed tied 8-8 through the ninth; the inning started with International Tie Breaker rule. Melissa Pendleton went to score as she was the last out from the previous inning. Savannah Moorefield singled and moved Melissa to third and then she stole home on a pass ball.
Melissa Pendleton went 4-5 and Zoe Hutchens went 3-5 with three RBIs. Abby Hutchens and Melanie Roberson each had three hits.
All three pitchers threw three innings each. Josie Pendleton started and gave up seven hits and eight runs; six were earned. Hannah Beasley came in and threw three innings and gave up four hits. Cassidy Largen threw the last three and had four strikeouts.

“It was a good week for us with three good wins improving us to 7-0,” said Wilson. “All three of our pitchers had some good innings, and we like to see them work hard and get out of jams,” he added.
“Our offense picked up as the week went on–we were slow in the Bassett game but got better through the week,” said Wilson.
