The Patrick County High School Cougar baseball team suffered a loss to Bassett last Tuesday, 11-0, but bounced back later in the week to pick up two wins. They shut out Floyd County 2-0 on Wednesday and defeated the Magna Vista Warriors 12-2 on Friday.

In Tuesday’s game, the Bassett Bengals took advantage of a wild pitch and an error to score two runs in the first inning .Additional runs were scored in the fourth and fifth innings. They scored six more runs in the sixth inning to take the 11-0 lead and end the game with the mercy rule.

Colby Vernon and Seth Scott each had a hit for the Cougars. Caleb Pendleton took the loss on the mound for the Cougars. He threw five innings, giving up five runs, four walks and striking out four.

The Cougars bounced back Wednesday with a 2-0 win over the Floyd Buffaloes.

The Cougars took an early lead in the first inning when Colby Vernon singled out, driving in a run. Evan Hopkins drove in another run in the third for the two runs in the game.

Dylan Phillips took the win on the mound, throwing five and a third innings giving up no runs, two hits and striking out four batters.

Friday, the Cougars took a two-run lead in the first inning against the Magna Vista Warriors. The first score came on a single by Thatcher Blankenship, one of his two RBIs in the game.

The Cougars scored five runs in the sixth inning. A runner scored on Evan Hopkins’ single, a stolen base, a single by Andrew Collins and a double by William Wood.

The Cougars had 14 hits in the game. Evan Hopkins, Seth Scott, Kristian Ashburn and Colby Vernon each collected multiple hits. Vernon and Blankenship each drove in two runs. Seth Scott had two stolen bases of the eight registered by the Cougar base runners.

Thatcher Blankenship earned the win on the mound pitching five innings. He gave up one run, two hits, and struck out 10.

The Cougars played a double-header with the JVs Monday afternoon against North Stokes.
