The annual Demolition Derby will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, at Rotary Field in Stuart.
Sponsored by Patrick County Tourism, the Rotary Club of Stuart, ValleyStar Credit Union and Ten Oaks/Prolam, the event will be hosted by Sarge & Sons Demolition Derby Inc. of Ohio.
Spectator gates open at 4:30 p.m. The children’s Power Wheels Derby begins at 6 p.m., with the main event scheduled for 7 p.m.
Rotary Club of Stuart member Anna Lester said five categories are available for the main event: Wire-Up, Pro-Stock, Full-Size, Compact and Six-Cylinder.
“Generally we pull in lots of local teams and also folks from North Carolina and Danville and places just in the general area,” she said.
There also will be two Power Wheels Derby classes for children ages 3-5 and 6-9. A cash prize will be awarded to the winner of each class.
Lester estimated at least 1,500 people attended last year’s event.
“It was packed, it was a beautiful evening. We’re hopeful for nice weather because it’s very weather dependent,” she said.
The Pickle & Ash Food Truck, the Patrick County Band Boosters and the Woolwine Ruritan Club will sell concessions during the event.
Participants are still being accepted for the Derby, Lester said.
“Some people will just drive to the event and enter that evening,” she said.
The entry fee is $50 per vehicle, and pit passes are $20 each.
Tickets are $10 for ages 13 and older, $5 for ages 7-12, and free for children 6 and younger.
The rain date is Friday, Sept. 4.
