Mr. Richard Johnny Woods, 83, of Stuart, went to his heavenly home, on Friday night, September 18, 2026, at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina with his loving family by his side, after courageously battling a short illness.
Mr. Woods was born October 13, 1942, in Patrick County, one of three children born to the late Roy Sanders and Stella Dunkley Woods. Mr. Woods was known by many names; Richard, Daddy, Papa. Richard graduated from Stuart High School in 1961. Richard and Marie married on December 23rd, 1963, on a snowy day in Vesta by Elder Bennie Clifton. He was proud and loved his daughter and grandsons dearly, his extended family and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Richard was respected, faithful, and a devoted deacon of Wayside Community Church where he served various roles. He was a Lifetime Member of Stuart Volunteer Fire Department, volunteered with Patrick County Jaycees, avid supporter of the community through many charity events and had retired from United Elastic with over 40 years of dedicated service. He was a humble man of morals, integrity and the epitome of honesty. His work ethic was second to none and the best family man and provider for his wife and family. He loved gardening, mechanics, woodworking, various sports where he pitched softball for 10 years, farming, avid horseshoe pitcher where he pitched in various tournaments including the Hill City Open and loved bluegrass gospel music. Most importantly, he had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
He is survived by his loving devoted wife of 62 years, Marie Trent Woods; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Heath and Randy Heath; two grandsons Mr. Zach Heath and fiancé Haley Day and Mr. Hunter Heath; one brother and sister-in-law Roger Woods and Brenda Woods of Bassett, VA and one sister-in-law, Theresa Woods of Mt. Airy, NC. One Aunt, Nancy Dunkley Foley of Fieldale, VA and several cousins, niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother J.T. Woods and many loved extended family members.
The funeral service for Mr. Woods will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Teddy Hiatt, Pastor Mark Collins, and Pastor Ricky Rogers officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Patrick Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at their home.
