All seven Patrick County public schools are fully accredited, with five earning framework scores in the 90s or higher, according to information presented to the Patrick County School Board at its Oct. 14 meeting.

Schools Superintendent Dr. Jason Wood said the division’s schools performed well under the state’s 2026 accountability framework, although the way certain student subgroups are evaluated affected the performance classifications of several schools.

“So, five of our seven had a framework score in the 90s and two of them were in the 80s,” Wood said.

Patrick County High School received the highest framework score in the division at 105.4, followed by Woolwine Elementary School at 97.7 and Meadows of Dan Elementary School at 95.9.

Stuart Elementary School received a score of 92.6, while Blue Ridge Elementary School scored 91.6. Hardin Reynolds Memorial School and Patrick Springs Primary School received scores of 86.5 and 84.8, respectively.

Wood said the state has recognized concerns with how certain student subgroups, including students with disabilities, are factored into school performance classifications.

Those calculations resulted in Stuart Elementary School being placed in the Meets Expectations category despite its framework score exceeding 90. Patrick Springs Primary School and Hardin Reynolds Memorial School were placed in the Approaching Expectations category.

Wood said the division remains pleased with the schools’ overall framework scores.

He also noted an increase in the number of schools statewide identified as targeted support schools, from approximately 300 last year to more than 600 this year.

Six of Patrick County’s seven schools improved their framework scores over the previous year, Wood said.

“Meadows of Dan is the only one who went from a 97.1 to a 95.9. Still exceptional,” he said.

Although Stuart Elementary and Patrick Springs Primary did not meet expectations for the subgroup of students receiving special education services, Wood said their pass rates remain approximately 10 percentage points above the state average.

“We understand that the system is what we’re having to adjust to, and it wouldn’t matter if all of our students were distinguished, we would still look at our data, see what changes we need to make, and do what’s best for our kids because that’s what we do all the time,” Wood said.

He also reported that Patrick County Public Schools recently ranked ninth in Virginia for Standards of Learning test scores, while Patrick County High School ranked third among combined middle and high schools.

Wood highlighted student attendance at Meadows of Dan Elementary School, which he said had the lowest chronic absenteeism rate in Region VI.

“Meadows of Dan is the number one school in our Region VI when it comes to coming to school, and so they have the lowest chronic absentee number,” he said.

In other business, the board:

*Approved naming the Patrick County High School football stadium Tim Goad Stadium, with a dedication sign to be added to the scoreboard. The playing field will retain its name, Judge Hooker Field.

*Received Virginia School Boards Association awards.

*Heard updates on the Ok2SpeakOut program and school-age childcare.

*Approved a proclamation designating October as Bullying Prevention Month.

*Approved the consent agenda, an amended personnel report and three religious exemptions identified as 2026-2027-3, 2026-2027-4 and 2026-2027-5.
