The Virginia Department of Fire Programs (VDFP) has launched its first statewide Community Risk Assessment Dashboard, an online resource designed to help fire departments identify local hazards, assess risks and improve emergency preparedness.
The public-facing dashboard combines information about demographics, buildings, geographic characteristics, emergency response agencies, critical infrastructure and past incidents to help fire service leaders make informed decisions about prevention and emergency response.
“Departments who do not yet have data-informed information and intelligence about their risk profile now have a place to start,” said Sarah Kenny, VDFP coordinator of community risk reduction.
The department also plans to offer one-day workshops across Virginia from October through January 2027 to help fire service leaders learn to use the dashboard. Space is limited.
