CHARLOTTE P. EGGLESTON
Charlotte Ann Pedigo Eggleston, 87, formerly of Martinsville, died Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at The Landmark Center in Stuart.
She was born on March 11, 1930 in Franklin County. to the late Benjamin Carlton Pedigo and Johnsie Hayes Pedigo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Spottswood Fisher “Jack” Eggleston; son, Dennis Eggleston; brothers, Ben Pedigo and Wade Pedigo; and sister, Betty Adkins.
She was a member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Janet E. Smith and husband Michael of Asheboro, N.C., Karen E. Blankenship and husband Tim of Bridgewater, and Sharon E. Lovell and husband Rob of Harrisonburg; daughter-in-law, Karen R. Eggleston of Martinsville; sister, Jean Brown of Martinsville; and brother, Robert Pedigo of Vinton; and five grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Saturday, May 6, at McCabe Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. G.H. Vaughan and the Rev. Mark Hall officiating. Burial was at Roselawn Burial Park.

GARY D. HALL
Gary Dean Hall, age 60, of Cana, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at his home.
He was born August 27, 1956 in Carroll County to Hattie Mae Easter Hall and the late Joseph Wayne Hall. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Joan Guynn and Judye Galyean; and a brother, Ronald Hall.
He was of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith.
He is survived by his wife, Fathie Louzettie Hall of the home; mother, Hattie Mae Hall of Cana; brothers and sister-in-law, Marvin and Vickie Hall of Lambsburg, and Ralph Hall of Cana; sister-in-law, Shirley Hall of Mount Airy, N.C., and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held on Friday, May 5, at Howell Funeral Chapel of Mount Airy conducted by the Rev. Richard Hawks and Elder Arwood Edwards. Burial was in the Edwards Family Cemetery.

SHERRY A. HILL
Sherry Ann Hill, 76, was peacefully and comfortably called to her Heavenly home May 4, 2017, by our Lord and Savior, the Merciful and Great Physician.
Sherry Ann was born on October 16, 1940 in Selma, Ala., to the late Pellie Lucile (Moseley) and Theodore Carson Courtney.
She was a lifelong homemaker and licensed cosmetologist. She cared immensely about her family and prioritized raising her children with strong moral values while building a Christian home. Many who were able to experience her warm and spunky spirit never forgot how devoted she was to her family and friends.
Married to Paul Hill, she traveled around the southeast and to Germany as he worked as an air traffic controller in the United States Air Force. They lived and thrived in Fayetteville, N.C., for 43 years and are members of Northwood Temple Church.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Paul Allen Hill, originally of Claudville; her two children, son, Paul Michael Hill of Sevierville, Tenn., and daughter, Paula Michele Fanning (husband Dyrck Alan Fanning) of Lumberton, N.C.; and one grandson, Andrew Carson Fanning of Charlotte, N.C.
We are extremely blessed and grateful for a wife, a “Momma”, and a “Mommy Too” and the memories and life lessons she shared with us.
A visitation and memorial service were held at Northwood Temple Church on Saturday May 6. Burial will be held at Mary Horner Walker Presbyterian Church in Claudville on Saturday May 13 at 2 p.m.

IRENE S. HOOVEN
Irene Shelor Hooven, age 64, of Williams Meadow Lane, Winston-Salem, N.C., went peacefully home to be with her Lord on Friday, May 5, 2017, at Forsyth Medical Center.
She was born July 1, 1952 in Patrick County to Alden Shelor and Thelma Wood Shelor. She was preceded in death by her father and an infant daughter, Debbie Ruth Hopkins.
She was a caring and compassionate nurse case manager who helped countless patients and families during her career. She retired from Forsyth Medical Center and spent her final years enjoying time with her family and traveling.
She was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend to many, but her greatest joy came from serving as a loving grandma. Her kind heart and beautiful smile will be sorely missed by all those who were blessed to know her.
Surviving are her husband, Bobby Hooven of the home; her mother, Thelma Wood Shelor of Meadows of Dan; her daughters and sons-in-law Anne (Tim) Dirks of Colorado, Jennifer (Paul) Flury of Winston-Salem, and Mary Beth (Stephen) Browde of Pittsboro, N.C.; her nine grandchildren; and her brothers and sisters Charles Shelor and Cathy (Tom) Dalton of Meadows of Dan, Daniel Shelor of Galax, Dorothy (Eddie) Argenbright of Goodview, and Lora (Mike) Shumate of Independence.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, May 9, at Parkview Primitive Baptist Church conducted by Elders Eddie Fowler and E.W. Hooven. A second visitation was held Tuesday at New Dan River Primitive Baptist Church in Vesta, with burial in the church cemetery.

LOU A. HUTCHENS
Lou Ella Amos Hutchens, 95, of Spencer, died on May 6, 2017, at her home.
She was born on April 2, 1922 to the late Mary Ellen Martin Amos and James Calvin Amos. She was also preceded in death by her husband; William Eustance Hutchens, six brothers, four sisters, one grandson, one great-great-granddaughter and one son-in-law.
She was of the Primitive Baptist Faith and was a member of the Moorefield Store Fire Department Auxiliary, Virginia North Carolina Homemakers Club and was a 4 H leader.
Surviving are four daughters, Diane Gauldin of Axton, and Debbie Nowlin and husband Donnie, Joan Light and husband Gary, and Susan Roudabush and husband Perry, all of the Moorefield Store Community, Spencer; one son, Tommy Hutchens and wife Jane of Winchester, Ky.; foster son, Jimmy Wray of Bassett; grandchildren, Jimmy, Jennifer, Jonathan, Joseph, Dakota, Kelly, Eric, Sara, Beth, Ben, Kaitlyn, Claire, Bryan, Marty, Billy, Mark, and Angie; 15 great-grandchildren, ten step great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren, special sister-in-law; Lena Amos, special friend Marguerite Roudabush, numerous nieces and nephews and a special dog, Mossy.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Norris Funeral Services in Stuart with Pastor Ed Hartman and Elder Laray Smith officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Stuart.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight (Wednesday May 10) at Norris Funeral Services Chapel and other times at the home of Debbie Nowlin, 1622 VA/NC Rd., Spencer, VA.

MARY H. MOORE
Mary H. Moore, 73, of Spencer, died Friday, May 5, 2017, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
She was born March 20, 1944 in Stuart and was a daughter of the late Vennie Hylton and Lucy G. Penn Hylton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George J. L. Moore; sisters, Lucy Mae Hylton-Hill, and Gloria Parthenia Hylton; brothers, Ezra Lee Hylton, and Jeremiah Hylton; and grandson Brandon Shante Moore.
She was a member of Fayette Street Christian Church.
She is survived by her three daughters, Concetta Ann Hylton Brown, Cynthia Gail Moore Martin, and MaDonna Denise Hairston; brothers, Vallie Walker Hylton (Gloria), and Cecil Woodrow Hylton; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and godson Justin King.
The funeral was held Tuesday, May 9, at Greater International Pentecostal Holiness Church in Martinsville. Burial was in Carver Memorial Park.

FRANK SHIRLEY
Frank Shirley (Joseph Franklin David Shirley), age 59, of Meadows of Dan, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 7, 2017.
He was born on September 11, 1957 in McDowell County, W.Va., to the late Phyllis Jean Senter and Charles David Junior Shirley, and was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Susan Heaton and a sister, Christina Hurley.
He loved fishing and hunting, as well as spending time with family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Amy Shirley of Gastonia, N.C., Robert and Veronica Shirley of Avondale, W.Va., Mark Sorrell of Florida; a loving and caring stepson, Andrew Wilson and wife Miranda of Stuart; three stepsons, Michael Heaton, Daniel Julian and Jessie Jochims; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Wilson of the home; a daughter, Carrie Ann Sorrell of Florida; seven grandchildren; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Lola Shirley, Ann and Rudy Engram, Helen and L.C. Thomas, and Rose Marie Maynor, all of Enterprise, Ala.; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Charles E. Maynor of Black Eagle, W.Va., David Lee and Krysti Maynor of Enterprise and Bernard DeWayne; 20 nieces and nephews; a host of great nieces and nephews; and a good friend, Daniel Wilson.
All services will be private.

JEAN M. THOMPSON
Jean Martin Thompson, 87, of Stuart, died Thursday, May 4, 2017.
She was born on May 5, 1929 in Ridgeway and was a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Martin and the late Allie Wyatt Martin. She was also preceded in death by husband, Hersey Kube Thompson; brothers, James Paul Martin, Evan Curtis Martin, and Grover Cleveland “Duck” Martin Jr.; and sisters, Mayme Evelyn Middleton and Thelma “Toni” Suval.
She was a long-time member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Martinsville. She graduated high school in Martinsville and graduated from Roanoke College with a degree in accounting. She worked as a cost accountant at Old Virginia Packing Company and taught accounting through UVA in Charlottesville.
She and her husband were part owners of The Firestone Tire Store in Orange. She enjoyed traveling, where she spent time in Spain, Rome and the Mediterranean.
Surviving are a few cousins; nieces; nephews; and a special niece, Betty Carpenter Simms who made sure she was taken care of and whom Jean loved dearly.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, May 9 at Christ Episcopal Church of Martinsville.
