Samantha Monk (left) of Mount Airy, N.C., and Daniel Alvarez of Dobson, N.C., were the top female and males to finish the Covered Bridge 5K, held Saturday in conjunction with the Covered Bridge Festival in Woolwine.

Saturday was the seventh annual run of the Bob White Covered Bridge 5K. Even though the bridge is not yet rebuilt, Jack’s Creek Covered Bridge was included in this year’s race course. The event finished at the Smith River Church of the Brethren near the site of the former Bob White Covered Bridge instead of going through it, too.

First place overall winners were Daniel Alvarez of Dobson, N.C., with a time of 18:07 and Samantha Monk of Mount Airy, N.C., with a time of 23:13.

The race benefits Stuart Athletic Booster Club. The race weather was perfect—70 degrees and overcast. Runners ranged from four years old to 73 with a total of 71 runners competing in the 5K.

Raffle prizes were given to participants whose bib numbers were drawn at random.

Top overall male and female winners won a photography session at Jack’s Creek Covered Bridge with Kim Rakes at Hopespun Photography as well as a $50 gas card from Clark Gas & Oil.

All adult winners received either a commemorative ornament or magnet of Bob White Covered Bridge. All child winners won custom designed medals featuring a covered bridge.
