The Meals Tax is among the items to be discussed when the Patrick County Board of Supervisors meets on Monday, July 10.

A referendum on the proposed tax was soundly defeated by county voters when it last appeared on the ballot, in the November 2016 election, according to previous reports.

If approved, a 4-percent tax would have been charged on meals purchased outside the Town of Stuart, which already has a 5-percent meals tax.

The 2016 election was the sixth time the referendum failed, with 61 percent of the 8,100 county voters weighing in on the matter voting against the measure, according to previous reports.

In other matters at their 6 p.m. meeting, supervisors also will:

Hear about the Local Assistance Programs (Revenue Sharing, TAP, Primary Extensions) from Lisa Price-Hughes, resident engineer for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT); consider a franchise agreement; and hear comments from residents.

The board will meet in closed session to discuss personnel matters, legal matters, contract matters and real estate, according to the agenda.

The meeting will be held in the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Building, located at 106 Rucker Street in Stuart.
