Mountain Top Party Line – September 13, 2017

I found this photo the other day of the class of 1952 at a reunion in July 1984. We were looking good that day. No one had gray hair that year.

It is so sad to see all the floods in Texas and Florida and the suffering there. Keep these folks in your prayers and those that are trying to help get supplies in to them. Patrick County is gearing up to send supplies and churches are helping.

It looks like gas prices went up but we have been through that before.

We have some really nice neighbors that have moved in on Old Mill Road and it a joy to know Dennis and Mary Simmons and some of their family members. The other Saturday morning, Mary brought me a loaf of delicious zucchini bread. I really did enjoy it—thank you.

The teens at the Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church had a yard sale, hot dog sale, and a free car wash. My car looked like new when they got it done. They work hard on their projects.

It was really nice to see my brother-in-law Robert’s daughter at the yard sale. I hadn’t seen Connie and Sandra in a while. They looked great.

Love and prayers go to Jerry Morgan who has been in the hospital. Jerry says I remind him of his grandma so he calls me “Grandma.” Keep Jerry and wife Rhonda and son in your prayers.

It is always so good to talk to my sister-in-law, Hilda Nittler. She has always been special to me and I always enjoy being with her. She’s a good cook. Also keep her in your prayers.

Fall is in the air and I see signs of that. I went out to All Seasons the other day and they had a lot of mums. I’m waiting for pumpkins and gourds. There are so many kinds and colors of pumpkins and gourds these days. It’s amazing.

Linda Roberts made a chocolate pound cake recently and it was yummy. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks to the kind people who brought some homegrown fresh eggs for us to give out at the Food Ministry. Another blessing!

The Soup Kitchen makes a good taco soup and the clients seem to like it. Using fresh vegetables may help. Their hummingbird vines are beautiful and running all the way up the banisters and over, and they are full of blooms.

Something to think about: if we talk more than we listen we would have two mouths and one ear. This quote is from Mark Twain and is very true.

Helpful hint: a gadget that works well for decorating sugar cookies is an empty plastic thread spool. Simply press the spool into the dough, imprinting a pretty flower design.

SPAGHETTI CASSEROLE

1 lb. ground beef

8 oz. pepperoni

1 jar mushrooms

1 onion, chopped

1 large can spaghetti sauce

1 small green pepper, chopped

1 16-oz. pkg. mozzarella cheese

10 oz. spaghetti

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Brown beef, onion and green pepper. Drain.. Cook spaghetti and drain. Add pepperoni and mushrooms to beef mixture. Mix all ingredients except cheese together with spaghetti and pour into baking dish. Cover with cheese and bake until bubbly.

Food for thought

Happiness is inward and not outward, and so it does not depend on what we have but what we are.
