New Year’s Day 2016 got off to a good start when I, along with Marilyn and cousin Mary Ann, went to eat supper with Larry and Teresa Martin. We had the traditional foods with lots of extras. Vanessa (Denny’s niece) was here and she drove us there and was the life of the party. She always makes herself at home wherever she goes.
Then there was that delicious breakfast at Providence United Methodist Church. Now I’m really glad to be on the “Daniel Fast” for the next 21 days, plus a few more extra. It’s so easy to follow.
I was so sorry to hear of the death of Margaret Prunting. My love and heartfelt sympathy go to the family. It was always a joy to see her.
The soup kitchen is busy these days since the numbers have increased to 45 this week. They really need new drivers. You will get a blessing and also enjoy the people.
I had a nice visit with Vera Plasters. She is a beautiful person and loves company.
If anyone needs winter clothing, you will find coats, sweaters, and other clothing at the Jesus House in Stuart. It’s open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Please keep Marilyn in your prayers. We are all praying hard for her.
The other day I was in Elizabeth’s Pizza for my weekly visit. A kind gentlemen stepped up and paid for my lunch, and before leaving, he paid for the next time. I was truly blessed. Thank you!
Keep Max Lawson and Keith Medley in your prayers, and all those who are battling various illnesses. There are so many people hurting.
What a blessing God’s Pit Crew is to so many, with food, medicine, clothes, and even toys for the children.
It was nice to hear from Beverly Woody and family. She recently enjoyed a trip to the Bassett Historical Museum and found a lot of treasures in Jewel Conner Cockran’s scrapbook. She was very excited.
Have you tried coloring in a coloring book? It’s a good stress reliever. Try it sometime.
Household hint: Read labels on food packages. Compare the sodium content to the recommended sodium intake for an extra day.

UN-STUFFED
PEPPERS
1/2 pound ground beef
1 green pepper, cut in strips
1 cup cooked rice
4 oz. Kraft Cheez Whiz
1/2 cup chopped tomato
Salt and pepper to taste
Basil leaves to taste

In a skillet, brown beef. Sauté peppers and drain excess fat. Add remaining ingredients and cook five minutes. Serves 2.

Food for thought
Perhaps we should make David’s prayer as we start the new year and every day: “Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.”

Pictured: Marie and Gary Fain. It’s always good to get a card from them every year. They look great and younger every year.
