MATTIE ELAINE PENN CLARK
Mattie Elaine Penn Clark, 79, of Spencer, passed away September 25, 2018, at her home. She was born on January 15, 1939, to the late Ernest Preston Penn and Rosa Lee Hylton Penn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Dewey Preston Penn, Sr., James Oscar “Wimpy” Penn, Bobby Joe Penn and Henry Lee Penn and three great grandsons, DeAngelo Waller I, DeAngelo Waller II, and DeMargeo Waller. Grandma Elaine, as she was affectionately called by many, was a babysitter for many children over the years. She was a faithful member of Trinity Church of the Living God for 59 years, where she served as the Women’s Society of Christian Service Treasurer and Junior High Sunday School Teacher. She will be remembered as a loving and giving wife, mother, grandma, daughter, sister, aunt, babysitter, cousin and friend.
She is survived by her husband, James William Clark, Jr., of the home; five daughters; Priscilla (Laron) Cox, of Spencer, Patricia (Arthur) Dandridge, of Fieldale, Betty (George) Hairston, of Spencer, Fay (Don) Hairston, of Martinsville, and Deborah (Jarvis) Glenn, of Spencer; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosa Marie (James) Hairston of Bassett, Mary Niblett of Roanoke, Alberta “Tootsie” Penn of Bassett, Gloria Jean (Sammy) Hagwood, of Critz; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Filmore (Barbara) Penn, of Spencer, David (Mary) Penn, of Critz, Beatrice Penn, of Spencer, Bishop Burgie Penn, of Stuart, and Carrie Penn, of Martinsville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at Trinity Church of the Living God, with the Bishop Burgie Penn officiating and Elder Frank B. Tatum eulogizing. RAYMOND R. HALL
Raymond R. Hall, age 85, of Stuart, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2018. He was born in Patrick County on March 30, 1933, to the late Kenny and Mary McCormick Hall. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Adams Hall; two sisters, May Blackwell, Thelma Hall; and three brothers, Taylor, Jesse, and Robert Hall. He served in the U.S. Army and had been a truck driver for all of his life. He was a member of Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette Conner Hall, of Stuart; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Jimmy Lawson, of Stuart, Sandra and Terry Bunn, of Woolwine; one son, Jesse Hall, of Stuart; three step-sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Becky Cockram, of Eden, N.C., Barry Cockram, of Critz, Trinity and Shvonda Cockram, of Claudville; four grandchildren, Cortney Williams, Jessica Dalton and husband, Dustin, Justin Hall and wife, Ashlee, Devin Hall; three step grandchildren, Brysen Cockram and wife, Madison, Dustin Cockram, J.J. Cockram; four great grandchildren, Mallory DeHart, Kade Williams, Caroline Dalton, Carter Hall; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held (today) Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastors Marion Poythress and Dewayne Troutt officiating. Burial will be in the Hall Family Cemetery on Dobyns Road. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. HERBERT CALVIN “BUTCH” LANCASTER, JR.
Herbert Calvin “Butch” Lancaster, Jr., age 66, of Stuart, passed away at his home, Wednesday, September 26, 2018. He spent his last days surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 4, 1951, in Roanoke to the late Herbert C. and Virginia Hughes Lancaster. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a long-time truck driver. He was a hard-working man who lived up to his namesake, Butch. To those who knew him, he was smart, tough, and always up for a good argument. He had a soft spot for his loving wife and his grandchildren. In addition to his family, he was a devoted fan of NASCAR and enjoyed the beach and eating at Red Lobster.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Teresa Ann Harbour Lancaster of the home, his two sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Kristina Lancaster, of Christiansburg, and Justin and Ashly Lancaster, of Ararat; five grandchildren, Maranda Lancaster, Hope Williams, Layla Lancaster, and Calvin and Caleb Lancaster; a brother, Mark Lancaster and wife Susan; a sister Juanita Johnson, and sister and brother-in-law Nanette and Larry Haden; special niece Charise Lancaster Greer and husband Mike and daughter, Addelie; and his devoted dogs Daisy and Dale Jr. (DJ).
Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Pastor Darrel Boles officiating. Burial was in Patrick Memorial Gardens. VICTORIA LUCADO “MAE” MABE
Victoria Lucado “Mae” Mabe, 73, of Stuart, died on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at her home. She was born on May 8, 1945, in Roanoke, to the late Rader Jackson Lucado and Clara Rigney Lucado.
She was a very active member of Patrick Springs Holiness Church, womens’s ministry, and past member Patrick Springs Ruritans Club.
Surviving are her husband Ronnie Mabe, of the home; two sons, Rocky Dwayne Mabe, of Patrick Springs, Michael Everett Mabe, of Stuart; three sisters, Hazel Harrison, of Glade Hill, Janet Bousman, of Martinsville, Deborah Webb, of Rocky Mount; one grandchild, Abigail Lillian Mabe; and a very special friend, Kathy Trent.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church with Dr. Marion Poythress officiating. Burial will be in the Mabe/Plaster family cemetery in Patrick Springs. GEORGE DANIEL RIGNEY
George Daniel Rigney, 86 of Fancy Gap, passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Carroll County to the late Robert Lee and Mary Jane Ayers Rigney.
Mr. Rigney was a retired teacher from Patrick County Public School System.
Survivors include his nieces, Esther Rigney and Brenda Harold and special friends, Marcella Michaels and family.

SARA ANNE HUTCHENS SCOTT
Sara Anne Hutchens Scott, age 28, of Stuart, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. She was born in Patrick County on August 30, 1990, to Clyde “Danny” Hutchens and Judy Light Hutchens. She was preceded in death by her father; maternal grandparents, L.D. Light and Magalene Allen Light; and paternal grandparents, Clifton Hutchens and Dorothy Duncan Hutchens.
The family would like to recognize Sara as a hero, as she has given many others a second and better chance at life with the gracious gift of her organs. Although Sara is not here with us any more, she will always live on through the gifts she has given.
She is survived by her husband, Brian Lee Scott, of Stuart; four children, Gavin Marot, Jayce Pascale, Lennox Scott, and Addilynn Scott; her mother, Judy Light Hutchens, of Stuart; one sister, Sheila Hostetter and husband, Zack, of Lawsonville, N.C.; one brother, Dwayne Hutchens and wife, Christy, of Lawsonville, N.C.; several nieces and nephews; many cousins and dear friends.
A memorial service was held at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart on Saturday, September 29, 2018, with the Pastor Tommy Nichols officiating. Burial was private. DAVIS REID SMITH, JR.
Davis Reid Smith, Jr., age 82, of Ararat, passed away Friday, September 28, 2018, at his home. He was born in Patrick County on November 8, 1935, to Davis, Sr., and Irene Gates Smith. He proudly served our country in the United States Army.
Among the many who will always cherish his memory is his loving wife, Sadie Willis Smith; sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Michelle Smith, Joey Smith, Davis Reid Smith, III and friend Kathy Alderman; and Greg and Teresa Smith; his adored grandchildren, Chase Smith, Jasmine Smith, Colton Smith and wife Rebekah, Jesse Smith, and Irene Smith; and a great grandson, Davis Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Hester Joyce and Jean Cook; and by a brother, Fred Smith. A graveside service was held at Oakdale Cemetery on Monday, October 1, 2018, by Fred D. Smith, Jr. Military honors will be provided by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Pilot Mountain Post 9436 & Mt.
