Growing your own shiitake mushrooms can be fun and profitable.

The Patrick County Master Gardeners will offer a Grow Your Own Shiitake Mushroom class at the Reynolds Homestead on Monday, April 1 from 6 to 8 p.m.

If you have ever wanted to grow mushrooms, this is the workshop to attend. Shiitake cultivation can be fun, interesting and profitable if you decide to pursue cultivation on a larger scale.

The workshop will give you the basics and provide hands-on experience as you learn to drill and inoculate your mushroom log.

Master Gardener Anissa Fulcher will explain the process for inoculating and sealing your mushroom log, how to store and maintain the log until fruiting, and how to harvest your mushrooms.

Class size is limited to 30 participants; and registration is $20 for Master Gardeners and $25 for the general public. All materials will be provided. This workshop qualifies as advanced training credit hours for Master Gardeners and Master Gardener Interns.

Pre-registration is required by calling (276) 694-7181.
