Beginning Monday, April 1, Virginia 627 (Egg Farm Road), between Virginia 714 (Halsey Farm Lane) and Virginia 627 (County Line Road) will be closed to through traffic while work crews replace the pipe carrying Grassy Branch Creek.

Signs will direct motorists to detour onto Virginia 692 (Anthony Drive), Virginia 702 (Pleasant View Drive), and back to Egg Farm Road (Virginia 627).

All motorists should use caution and follow the directional signs.

Weather permitting, the road is expected to re-open on Friday, April 5, according to a release from the Virginia Department of Transportation.

A bridge on Virginia 703 (Koger Mill Road) over the North Mayo River remains closed for repairs. The bridge is located north of Critz, about 0.5 mile from Virginia 703’s intersection with Virginia 626 (Abram Penn Highway). Local traffic can follow posted detour signs around the closure. Recent heavy rains have caused some erosion around one of the bridge’s piers and environmental issues have required assessments of the areas. Due to this, work on the bridge is not expected to start until approximately June 2019.

Other highway projects that may impact traffic travel in the 12-county Salem Transportation District include:

Guardrail installation on Lovers Leap Mountain, U.S. 58 eastbound and westbound, from 0.80 miles east of Virginia 610 to 0.08 miles west of Virginia 8 at mile marker 0. Lane closures will be in place, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.  Drivers should expect 10-15 minutes wait time.

Paving operations, mowing and other projects are part of VDOT’s routine roadway maintenance and may be underway at various times and areas.

Work schedules and construction project timelines are always subject to change and weather dependent.

For the most current traffic and road work information, call 511 or visit www.511virginia.org.

The Salem District covers Patrick, Bedford, Botetourt, Carroll, Craig, Floyd, Franklin, Giles, Henry, Montgomery, Pulaski, and Roanoke.
