Can anyone help identify this photo? It came out of Mrs. Martha Pendleton Boyd’s home, who was the local midwife. I remember her. To me, the photo has something about the Belchers around the nose and also the Boyds.

As I begin this week’s Party Line, it has been a difficult few days because of some negative comments about a repeat in the Party Line. I am sorry but I do not know what happened, but now it is time to move on and put this behind us.

On a brighter note, the Patrick County Music Association was wonderful with all the good music. The Southern Prophets were so good. Marilyn and Denny would have been proud. The band that Nick Goad was with plays for cruises and they put on a good show. When Nick played and sang you would have thought Elvis was in the house. It was a great night.

The Simmons family was up for the weekend and attended church. Mr. Simmons was telling about a bear he saw walking near Larry and Teresa’s farm. No doubt he was heading for the blueberry patch for a snack.

Thanks to Larry and Teresa for bringing me some of Gloria’s good food. I didn’t go to Gloria’s because of a tiring week and needed to rest both my body and mind.

It was good to see The Country Boys perform again. Brenda Joyce is still flat footing and always smiling.

The Soup Kitchen is up and running after a much needed vacation. It was good to see my people again. Mrs. Foley had been in the hospital but is now home. Keep her on your prayer list.

Please keep Linda Roberts in your prayers. She is still at Blue Ridge Therapy and walking further and further each day. Hang in there my friend. I miss you!

I want Jackie Davenport to know that I am reading her book again. Hope you are doing okay. I think of you often and your kindness that you show me.

We have the best Sheriff Department here in Patrick County. Thank you for all the work you do. Lately they have been very busy.

I am sorry to hear of the death of Mrs. Louise Martin. I worked with her at Bassett Walker. She always had a smile on her face. Love and prayers to the family.

Food for thought – It is great to love the truth, but it is greater still to speak the truth in love.

Steamed Blueberry Mush

2 cups sifted flour

4 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon butter

1 cup milk

4 cups fresh blueberries

2 cups sugar

4 teaspoons lemon juice

Sift the first three ingredients together. Cut in the butter. Add the milk and mix. Combine berries, sugar and lemon juice. Mix into batter. Turn into a buttered 2 quart mold. Cover tightly and steam for one hour. Serve with cream.

Note – an equal amount of raspberries or blackberries may be used as a substitute for the blueberries.
