The Patrick County Sheriff’s Office and the Patrick County school system will host a seminar on May 26 to highlight the hazards children face from the Internet and social media sites.
The seminar will be conducted by members of the Safe Surfin’ Foundation and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
“The event is open to all parents, grandparents, teachers, youth leaders, clergy, law enforcement officers, or anyone who has contact with children and wishes to learn the dangers which are lurking on line,” said Patrick Investigator Danny Martin. “Learn the warning signs to identify behaviors of children who unknowingly may be in contact with a pedophile they have met online who may be trying to lure them away from home.”
The number of children being abused, kidnapped and even murdered because of the contacts they are making with pedophiles and other criminals on social media is on the increase,” Martin said.
The Safe Surfin’ Foundation is the leader in Internet safety education. Educational materials will be available for attendees to take home to use as a reference to help those in their own families stay safe while they are online.
The free seminar will be held in the cafeteria of Patrick County High School from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on May 26. Please make arrangements to attend this special child safety even.
