A Bake Sale raised more than $800 for the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
Candy Elliott, organized the event that was held September 7 to raise funds and awareness of the guard’s mission.
The sale was co-sponsored by Tina Puckett, Jennifer Gregory, Alicia Kerce. Kerce’s step-daughters, Heather and Shyann Kerce, were helpers at the event that raised a total of $810.60 through sales of baked goods and donations.
“The outpouring of support and love of the people of Patrick County was amazing,” according to Elliott and co-sponsors. “One woman who told us that her father had passed away two weeks ago and that the Honor Guard were at his funeral. We could tell how much that meant to her.
“One nice woman said she was on disability, but she gave what she could. A young man come up with his hands full of pennies to put in the donation jar. We even had one person drive up to the curb to make a donation, “ Elliott said. “I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. The generosity of everyone was overwhelming.”
