The 4-H Area Contest was held on Saturday, May 7 at Riverlawn Elementary School in Pulaski County. This is a five-county competition with Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, Patrick, and Pulaski counties participating.
The area contest includes competition in Share the Fun talent, dramatic reading, public speaking, and presentations. Ten 4-Hers participated in this competition including: Breanna Cox: Food, Nutrition and Health: Desserts Powerpoint presentation, “How to Make Brownies,” blue ribbon winner;
Suzanne Gonzalez: Food, Nutrition and Health: Fruits and Vegetables Powerpoint presentation, “How to Make a Caesar Salad,” blue ribbon winner and overall trophy winner; Mac Edwards: Public Persuasive Speech on “Why You Should Not Smoke,” blue ribbon and overall trophy winner;
Caitlyn Haynes: Public Persuasive Speech on “There Are Too Many Electronics in Our Lives,” blue ribbon and overall trophy winner; Fiona Woodford: Public Speech Personal Narrative on “The Day that Changed My Life,” blue ribbon and overall trophy winner;
Kali Craig: Dramatic Reading from “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School” by Jeff Kinney, blue ribbon winner; Josie Vernon: Share the Fun, dance, ballet, “ The Ballerina Song,” blue ribbon winner; Sam Pendleton: Share the Fun, instrumental, banjo, “Foggy Mountain Breakdown,” blue ribbon and overall trophy winner;
Emma Nickelston: Share the Fun, variety, flag routine, “The River,” blue ribbon winner; Nicole Melendez, Share the Fun, vocal, “Hello” by Adele, blue ribbon winner.
All of these 4-Hers are to be commended for the excellent performances in their respective categories. Also a special thank you goes to Tamika Reynolds and Kristy Hughes who took time out early on a Saturday morning to help judge the competition.
