The Reynolds Homestead, in partnership with the Patrick County Historical Society, will host its bi-monthly “History Around Us” program on Wednesday, August 3 at noon in the Continuing Education Center.
This month’s program will feature retired teacher and coach Nelson McConnell, telling stories about Fairy Stone State Park and its surrounding area. One of the gems of the Virginia state park system, Patrick County’s Fairy Stone State Park is home of the mysterious “fairy stones.” It is one of the six original Virginia state parks to open on June 15, 1936.
Now a seasonal employee for the park, McConnell is a humorous and knowledgeable speaker who will entertain the audience with unusual stories and tales from the park’s 80-year history.
The program is free and open to the public. Bring a bag lunch and enjoy the presentation. All participants are welcome and invited to stay for the monthly volunteer meeting afterwards as well.

Tales of Fairy Stone State Park will be the subject of the August 3 history program at the Reynolds Homestead.
