Mary Lawson Tilley, age 98, of Danbury, N.C., died Sunday, August 14, 2016, at Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation.
She was born May 18, 1918, in Patrick County, and was a daughter of the late George and Judy Bowman Lawson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Paul Tilley; sisters, Viola Martin and Nellie Belton; and brother, Alvis Lawson.
She was a homemaker and a member of Snow Hill United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Wilma Tilley of King, N.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Bernice Tilley of Stuart; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Joe Tilley; and several special nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 17, at Howell-Nelson Funeral Chapel of Pilot Mountain, N.C., conducted by the Rev. Doug Pryor. Burial was held Thursday at Snow Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Activity Department at Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation, 5680 Windy Hill Drive, Winston-Salem, N.C., 27105; Lawsonville Volunteer Fire Department, 1013 Fire Rescue Lane, Lawsonville, N.C., 27022; Snow Hill United Methodist Church, 2030 Snow Hill Church Road, Danbury, N.C., 27016; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation for their love and care. They would also like to thank the many friends and family who visited her.
