The Patrick County High School Cougar wrestling team hosted its inaugural Cougar Classic Duals Wrestling Tournament Saturday with a total of eight teams competing.
In Patrick County’s opening match of the day, the Cougars wrestled well and came away with a 54-27 win against the Martinsville Bulldogs. Individual winners for the Cougars were Brian Lange (112), AJ Robertson (120), Ethan Rorrer (126), Jeremy Gunter (132), Colt Martin (145), Tyler Stanley (152), Dustin Tucker (170), Austin Boles (182), and Hunter Kenyon (195).
In their second match, the Cougars squared off with Grayson County coming away with a 64-14 victory. Individual winners for the Cougars were Brian Lange (106), Shyann Walter (113), AJ Robertson (120), Ethan Rorrer (126), Colt Martin (145), JD Anderson (160), Dustin Tucker (170), Austin Boles (182), Hunter Kenyon (195), James Lane (220), and Devin Bain (HWT).
The Cougars dropped their third match of the day to George Washington of Danville by a score of 51-24. Cougars recording wins against GW were Abel Chavez (138), JD Anderson (160), Austin Boles (182), and Devin Bain (HWT).
For their final match of the day the Cougars faced the Bassett Bengals in the consolation finals. The Cougars lost a hard-fought match by a score of 38-36. Cougars scoring wins against Bassett were Brian Lange (106), AJ Robertson (120), Tyler Stanley (152), Austin Boles (182), Hunter Kenyon (195), and Devin Bain (HWT).
The Cougars finished in fourth place in the tournament with Bassett finishing third. GW of Danville placed second. South West Randolph County High School out of North Carolina won the Cougar Classic Duals Championship. Martinsville placed fifth, followed by Heritage High School. Magna Vista placed seventh and Grayson County was eighth.
The Cougars will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Christiansburg for the Conference 32 Championships.
