Celebrate National Kids to Parks Day Saturday, May 15, from 10:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Activities scheduled at Fairy Stone State Park include:
- Fairy Stone Hunt, 10 a.m. at the Visitor Center.
Learn the legend behind the naturally occurring stone cross formations, and travel to the special location in the park to search for your own staurolite crystal or “Fairy Stone.” Guests will need to drive their own vehicles to the hunt site.
- S.I. Creek Scene Investigation, 2 p.m., Shelter 3.
Kids and adults are invited to get in and get wet as they look for macroinvertebrates and other stream critters.
- Sandy Shorts, 4 p.m., meet a ranger at the beach to make a Fairy Stone shaped sand castle.
- Welcome Campfire, 7:30 p.m., Shelter 2.
Join the interpretive staff for our Welcome Campfire to help get oriented. Feel free to bring a musical instrument and jam a little. Or, if you’re a good storyteller, share with us.
Registration is required. Group size is dependent upon group size limits in place at time of event.
Sign up at the Visitor Center, call 276-930-2424, or email Fairystone@dcr.virginia.gov to register.
