A North Carolina man has been arrested following a vehicle pursuit, according to Sheriff Dan Smith.
The incident began at approximately 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, on Clark House Farm Road when Master Deputy Winfred Hill attempted to pull over the operator of a 2003 Chevrolet Impala for reckless driving.
The vehicle did not stop, but accelerated down Hill Valley Road and south onto Salem Highway, with Hill pursuing with his blue lights and siren activated, Smith said.
The suspect vehicle reached speeds in excess of 100 mph before continuing into North Carolina.
The Stokes County Sheriff’s Office was notified and told of the pursuit in progress, Smith said.
The pursuit continued in North Carolina for several miles on secondary roads, and the suspect turned onto a logging road and traveled until his vehicle could go no further.
The suspect ran from his vehicle and Hill chased him for nearly one mile before apprehending the man.
The Stokes County Sheriff’s Office later arrived on the scene and arrested the suspect, identified as James Brian Farmer, 38, of Westfield, N.C.
Farmer was wanted on felony warrants in Stokes County and is being held in the Stokes County Jail on those charges. He is also awaiting extradition back to Virginia on a fugitive warrant from Patrick county, Smith said.
Hill charged Farmer with felony eluding a law enforcement officer, reckless driving and driving without an operator’s license.
