The search effort for a Primland Resort guest last seen Friday entered the fifth day on Tuesday, as specialized rope teams were called in to tackle the steep terrain.
Patrick County Sheriff Dan Smith said specialized rope teams from throughout the region” were summoned to help “because of the rugged terrain and elevation changes.”
Bruce Rubin, 61, was reported missing Friday. Smith said Rubin went jogging on the resort’s property at 11 a.m. Friday, July 2, and did not return.
The 911 Communications Center first received the call from Primland at 7:20 p.m. on Friday, Smith added.
“We are exploring any and all potential leads at this point, and we have the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) directing the large-scale search effort,” Smith said.
Search and rescue teams from throughout the region began searching Friday evening. The effort resumed on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, Smith said.
In addition to his office, other agencies and volunteer groups helping with the search are the Virginia State Police, Virginia Department of Emergency Management, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Patrick County Department of Emergency Management, Patrick County Patriots, Primland Resort employees, multiple volunteer fire and rescue agencies in Patrick County and various search and rescue teams in Virginia and North Carolina, Smith said.
Rubin is described as a white man, 5-feet, 9-inches tall, and weighing 185 to 200 pounds. He has brown eyes, short gray hair, and a beard.
When last seen, he was wearing a T-shirt, shorts, and running shoes, according to the release.
