Mr. Lawrence Alfred Hylton, age 86 of Meadows of Dan, passed away Monday, August 9, 2021 at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax. He was born on February 3, 1935 in Floyd County to the late Dewey Hylton and Margie Hooker Peters. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hylton was preceded in death by two sons, Lonnie and Danny Hylton; a special grandson, Paul Reckner; four brothers, Eugene, Junior, Winford and John Hylton; his step-father, Ray Peters; and a niece, Kim Farmer. Mr. Hylton served in the United States Air Force, was a retired evangelist, and was the owner of Hylton’s Antique Shop.
Mr. Hylton is survived by his wife of 40 years, Delores Myers Hylton of the home; five children, David Hylton and wife, Georgette of Vesta, Larry Hylton of Stuart, Tina Kemp and husband, C.W. of Hillsville, Howard Alderman and wife, Crystal of Laurel Fork, Teri Lewis and husband, John of Meadows of Dan; nine grandchildren, Scottie Hylton, Seth Hylton, Kevin Kemp, Danielle Kemp, Madison Kemp, Rachael Kemp, Amy Fusco, Tommy Lewis, Sherri Reckner; eight great-grandchildren, Meredith Martin, Michael Polzella, Willow Hylton, Jaydn Kemp, Jordan Kemp, Samuel Kemp, Ezekiel Kemp, Lydia Fusco; three brothers, Clinton Hylton of Willis, Tommy Hylton and Harry Hylton, both of Floyd; a sister, Sylvia Boyd of Floyd; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Hylton will be held Friday, August 13, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Jonathan Goins officiating. Burial will follow in Shelor Family Cemetery.
