Nursing students from Patrick Henry Community College presented an educational program on fall prevention to the Landmark residents on Friday, September 30. The students used short skits to demonstrate how easily we can fall, what to do if someone falls, and how to prevent falls from occurring.
A few suggestions from the students included to turn on the light before getting up, call for assistance, and wear appropriate fitting shoes—great advice for everyone.
On October 27, students of the honors government class and their teacher, Nancy Carlson, from Patrick County High School assisted the residents in creating cute and funny scarecrows for fall decorating. The residents and students all had a great time.

Residents were invited to attend the Art Fusion Discussion Group on October 11 at the Landmark Center. Beth Ford, historical services assistant from the Reynolds Homestead, and volunteer Becky Turner led the meeting. Residents discussed autumn colors, the changing of the leaves, and the aroma of cooking a pot of beans on a cool fall day. As usual, residents shared memories about this time of year with family and friends.
Residents have been looking forward to viewing the fall colors as they travel to a variety of locations in and around Patrick County. On October 4, they rode up the mountain to Meadows of Dan for ice cream, October 11; they traveled to Mount Airy, N.C., for lunch and on October 13 they enjoyed breakfast at a local restaurant.
