Blue Ridge Elementary School student Elygah Jenkins was recognized as the Good Citizen recipient at his seventh-grade promotion to high school. The citizenship award is presented to an outstanding student at each school by the Colonel Abram Penn Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Elygah comes from a musically talented family and has been enjoying his trumpet in the school band and will be part of the Pride of Patrick County High School Band next school year. He also is teaching himself to play the guitar and plans to play in church where he now sings in the choir. He attends Elk Horn Baptist Church, where his uncle is pastor and is reported to thrive on helping others in time of need.
Elygah enjoys learning. He likes reading about wars in history and watching documentaries. His family reports he likes anything Army. He also enjoys making custom model cars with his dad, which involves assembling, sanding, and painting. Elyjah has made some scale models by himself and is detailed and precise in the modeling. He also enjoys computers and electronics and, being tech savvy, is helpful to the family when needed. Like most his age, he is unsure of his future career, but has thoughts of becoming a race car driver, auto mechanic, or pursuit of some other technical occupation.
