Apple Dumpling Festival 5K held October 22nd

Paving of the Mayo River Rail Trail extensions were complete in time for runners and walkers to enjoy for the Apple Dumpling Festival 5K on Saturday, October 22. The newly paved trail along the river provided a beautiful fall background as runners made their way through downtown Stuart.
Participants of the event, ranged from age four years old to over 70. The overall male winner was Jonathan Adcock, followed by Shannon Atkins of Willis, and third was Mark Joyce of Bassett.
On the women’s side: first place went Megan Roper from Hillsville, second was Missy Hazard, age 11, and in third place was Lauren Roper of Hillsville.
In the masters division, the male winner was Randy Burrier of Floyd and the female winner was Peggy McCutchen of Stuart.
All participants were very complimentary of the newly paved section of trail along the river.
This event was sponsored by Patrick County Tourism, Jones and DeShon Orthodontics, Clark Gas & Oil, EMI Security, Patrick County Eye Associates, Clark Brothers Construction, Total Fitness, River Community Bank, Blue Ridge Accounting, Windy Hill Orchards, Landmark Group and Outdoor Entertainment.
Race organizers especially thank Joseph Quesensberry, director of tourism for Patrick County, for his work on the extension of the Mayo River Rail Trail.
