The Varsity Cougar Football Team hosted Carroll County Friday, August 26, suffering their first loss of the season 25-56.
Triston Underwood scored on the first drive of the game, giving the Cougars a 7-0 lead after the extra point kick by Reyli Martinez. The Cavaliers answered and never looked back. The Cougar defense was led by Sam Hubbard with 8 tackles and 4 assists. Triston Underwood added 5 tackles and 2 assists. Stephen Spencer had 5 tackles and 2 assists. Jermaine Penn and Demontez Hill each added 3 tackles and 2 assists. Nicholas Pell and Hunter Tankersley added 2 tackles and 2 assists each. Aden Penn and Will Black each recorded 2 tackles. Trevor Joyce had 2 tackles and 2 assists. Peyton Cambron added 1 tackle and 3 assists, and George Stovall added 2 assists and a blocked punt.
Offensively, the Cougars were led by Demontez Hill on the ground with 101 yards on 15 carries. Hill had a rushing touchdown and had 25 yards with a receiving touchdown as well. Jai Penn added a touchdown on a 55-yard reception from Triston Underwood. Aden Penn had 37 yards on 5 carries and one reception for 4 yards. Stephen Spencer had 32 yards on 3 carries. Triston Underwood had 6 yards on 7 carries with a rushing touchdown. Jermaine Penn had 3 yards on 3 carries, and Matthew Allen added 6 yards on 1 carry. Underwood went 4-14 passing with 84 yards and 2 passing touchdowns. The Cougars will be back in action next Friday night at Floyd County.
