Breakfast with Your Community Leaders, sponsored by the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce and Reynolds Homestead, is set for Wednesday, Oct. 5.
The event will take place in the Hooker Building, located at 420 Woodland Drive in Stuart.
The fee is $10 per person, and includes the cost of a typical country-style breakfast of sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy, fruit, coffee, and juice.
Doors open at 8:30 a.m. for the breakfast buffet. The program will start soon after.
Rebecca Adcock, executive director of the chamber, said the building can hold 90 people, but the groups would love to have around 5 people attend.
“I think it will be very informational. I think we’ve all heard little snippets here and there, and this will just be a great bang for your buck in finding out everything,” she said.
Organizers decided to hold the event because there are several current county projects and others preparing to get underway, especially with recent grants, Adcock said.
“We’re just working on a centralized event where everyone will get 5-10 minutes to do a brief update on the projects they’re involved in,” she said.
Adcock said the public will also be able to ask their questions and receive answers from the speakers.
Confirmed speakers for the event include Town of Stuart Manager Bryce Simmons, Patrick County Economic Development Director Sean Adkins, Patrick County Tourism/Recreation Coordinator James Houchins, and Del. Wren Williams, R-Stuart.
Representatives with the Reynolds Homestead, the chamber, and Workforce Development of Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC) will also be in attendance.
Adcock said she is still working to secure a representative from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to discuss local projects.
“U.S. 58 is a big project that’s happening right now, but there’s also the bridges in the county that are on their list for replacement. That will have a substantial impact to the county,” she said.
She is also trying to get a representative from Foresight Hospital and Health System to provide a progress update, and other local organizations to attend the event.
Adcock said organizers hope the event can be held annually.
“One reason why we picked October is elected officials aren’t in Richmond or D.C. right now, and usually the Patrick County Young Professionals have a Voter Education Forum in October. They are skipping this” that this year because “there isn’t a huge amount of positions on the ballot to have those individuals come out and speak,” Adcock said.
