Mrs. Geraldine Belle Pyrtle Handy, age 78, of Stuart, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at her home. She was born in Stokes County on February 8, 1944, to the late Maylor Pyrtle and Gladys Nelson Pyrtle. In addition to her parents, Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bobby” Dayton Handy; one son, Gregory Handy; four brothers, Thomas Pyrtle, Jayhugh Pyrtle, Garner Pyrtle, Jimmy Pyrtle; and one sister, Norma Jean Pyrtle Fultz. Mrs. Handy was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She always cared deeply for others, especially her family. Geraldine was a good woman who was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. She loved gardening and growing her flowers. Mrs. Handy will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish the memory of Mrs. Handy are one son, Timothy “Timmy” Dayton Handy of Stuart, Virginia; two brothers, Wayne Pyrtle of Lawsonville, North Carolina, Charles Pyrtle of Walnut Cove, North Carolina; one sister, Joyce Pyrtle Niten of Walnut Cove, North Carolina; several special nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
A memorial graveside service for Mrs. Handy will be held at a later date in the Roberson Family Cemetery in Stuart with Pastor Gary Combs officiating. There will be no formal visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
