Mr. Garry Glenn DeBruhl, age 86 of Stuart, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2022, at his home. He was born in Buncomb County, North Carolina on September 14, 1936, to the late Glenn and Virginia DeBruhl. In addition to his parents, Mr. DeBruhl was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Carol C. DeBruhl; and a son, Mark Reagan DeBruhl. He was an undergraduate of UNC Chapel Hill and graduate of the University of Virginia. He started his career as a teacher at Drewry Mason High School. He served his country in the United States Army and National Guard. He served on the Patrick County School Board and then was elected for five terms in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1968 to 1978. For the remainder of his career, he was a lobbyist. He was a member of Stuart Baptist Church where he loved teaching Sunday school and had been a member of Mountain Home Masonic Lodge #263 for 50 years. He loved his family, friends and fellow church members.
Mr. DeBruhl is survived by a son, Christopher Dean DeBruhl of Patrick Springs, Virginia, a daughter, Traci DeBruhl Roberson (Joel) of Stuart, Virginia; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer DeBruhl of Mechanicsville, Virginia; six grandchildren, Casey Nowlin (Courtney), C.J. DeBruhl, Wesley Roberson, Jordan DeBruhl, Riley Roberson and Ashley Roberson; three great-grandchildren, Camden Roberson, Magnolia Roberson and Trae Nowlin; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Stuart Baptist Church with Dr. Thomas Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens. Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard and Masonic rites by the Mountain Home Masonic Lodge #263. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
