The Lady Cougars kept the crowd on their feet with their 54-52 win over Halifax on Friday, January 20. Aniya Penn led the Cougars with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. Missy Hazard had 18 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, and 7 steals. Lilli Cobbler added 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist for Patrick County.
“What a basketball game,” said Coach Donnie Rakes. “Great crowd, great effort by both teams, and a really hard-fought game. They were so much bigger than we were inside, and at times, really exploited the advantage. My kids kept boxing out and that kept us in the game.
“Aniya Penn really was outstanding tonight and kept us in the game on the inside. I don’t really know what to say about Missy Hazard. Every team plays a box and one against her or double teams her, and yet tonight she has 18 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, and 7 steals. Wow! She is a special player.”
PC is 10-7 on the season, and 6-2 in Piedmont District.
