Roger Calvin Stowe, age 72, of Patrick Springs, VA, passed away on June 10, 2023, at Stanleytown Health & Rehabilitation. Calvin’s final hours were spent surrounded by family and friends. He was born on December 7, 1950, to the late Otis Franklin Stowe and Martha Louise Layman Stowe. Roger was also preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Stowe; brother-in-law, Harry Lee; sister-in-law, Penny Stowe; grandparents, Posey and Emma Layman; an aunt, Addie Smith; and a cousin, Mabel Stowe.
Calvin attended Hardin Reynolds Memorial School and graduated from Nashville Auto Diesel College in 1972. During his 44-year career, he specialized in autobody and collision repair, welding, painting, and finishing. He worked at Bob White’s Chevrolet, Martinsville Ford, Nelson’s Auto, and Gregory’s Autobody. Calvin enjoyed restoring vehicles to their former glory, tinkering around with his guitar, and talking on the ham radio. He loved his family and God more than anything. Calvin volunteered with the Patrick County Alzheimer’s Group, Patrick County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), TOPS Group, and Ruritan Club. He will be greatly missed.
Roger is survived by his children; Cindy Stowe Gravely (Douglas) of Ridgeway, VA, Crystal Stowe Brackett (Christopher) of Locust Grove, VA, and James Cory Stowe of Critz, VA; his grandchildren, Chase Wimbish, Ashley Gravely, Jasper Stowe, Kayleigh Stowe, Jennifer Stowe, James Stowe, Nova Stowe, Brayden Brackett, Parker Brackett, and Graham Brackett; and his brothers and sisters, Rachel Lee of Virginia Beach, VA, Ethel Hopkins (Lowell) of Meadows of Dan, VA, Larry Stowe (Lynetta) of Stuart, VA, Blaine Stowe (Carolyn) of Stuart, VA, Bruce Stowe of Stuart, VA, Nellie Handy (Leon) of Stuart, VA, JP Stowe of Lawsonville, NC.
A memorial service for Roger will be held at Moody Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2023, with Pastor Mark Wright officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
