Tunstall paid a visit to the Cougar gym last Thursday night and left losing to the Cougars 47-44. The night before, Patrick County traveled to Hidden Valley High School in Roanoke and lost 47-34.
In Wednesday’s game at Hidden Valley, the Cougars “came out really flat,” according to Coach Andrew Terry. “It was 19-5 after the first quarter, then we played with them for the rest of the game. It took a whole half before we really started playing,” he said. “We played a good fourth quarter and got back into the game, but just ran out of time.”
The score at the half was 28-11, but the Cougars came to life in the second half, scoring 23 to hidden Valley’s 19.
Seth Scott scored 18 points for PC, including two three-pointers. Brandon Hubbard scored six and Hunter Lawless had five.
Thursday the Cougars defeated Tunstall in a close game, 47-44.
“It was the most complete game with the most energy we have played,” Terry said. “We played good for about three and-one-half quarters,” he added.
“We got a little tight—we got a little nervous in the fourth quarter, putting up only four points in the quarter,” Terry said. “Our defense helped us out, so it was enough to get the job done.”
The Cougars led 27-22 at the half. They scored 16 points in the third quarter while the Trojans added 15.
The final quarter saw the Cougars score only four, but the defense held the Trojans to seven, securing the win.
Seth Scott was the leading scorer again Thursday night, picking up 17 points, including two three-pointers. Hunter Lawless added 10 with two three-pointers, and Brandon Hubbard scored nine with one three-pointer.
Last Friday night’s game against Magna Vista was canceled due to snow showers in Stuart.
Conference tournament action was scheduled to begin Monday, but schedules had not been set at press time due to inclement weather in the region.
