Potential flooding and other impacts from Tropical Storm Debby delayed the opening of schools in Patrick County, from Thursday, August 8 to Monday, August 12.
Staff will have August 8 and 9 as two additional virtual workdays to prepare for the upcoming year.
The National Weather Service in Blacksburg issued a flood watch for southwest Virginia from late Wednesday through Friday, with excessive rainfall expected. Runoff is expected to result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
The Patrick Couty School Board meeting also is postponing its regularly scheduled meeting, from Thursday, Aug. 8 until Thursday, August 15, at 5:30 p.m.
