Members of the Patrick Springs Volunteer Fire Department showed off the tools and skills it takes to extract crash victims from a car at the National Night Out at DeHart Park on August 5.
Deputy Chief Clint Weidhaas explained to the gathered crowd how his crew would extract someone from a wrecked car, while describing the amazing tools used. He stressed the need for the tools to do the job of extraction, as well as the need for more in the community to become members of volunteer fire departments in the county.
The crew systematically took the car apart as they demonstrated what it would take to remove a victim in various scenarios, including removing the roof, which can be necessary to get someone out without causing further injury.
