Mr. Richard Nash Clifton, Sr., age 87 of Vesta, passed away Friday, August 22, 2025, at Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows Nursing Home in Laurel Fork surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 8, 1938, to the late Homer Elza Clifton and Gracie Etta Bowling Clifton. In addition to his parents, Mr. Clifton was preceded in death by a brother, Guy S. Clifton, and a sister-in-law, Pauline Clifton. He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation with 40 years of service and later retired from J.C. Joyce Trucking and Paving Company, Inc. He was a member of Reed Island Springs Baptist Church.

Mr. Clifton’s life was a reflection of the strong values that shaped not only his journey, but the lives of those around him. Whether on the job, around the house, serving in his church, or helping a neighbor in need, Mr. Clifton never shied away from hard work. He saw purpose in every task and never settled for less than his best. Leading by example, Mr. Clifton instilled the principles of integrity, responsibility, and perseverance in both his children and grandchildren.

The love of his family was Mr. Clifton’s greatest source of pride and happiness. Providing for his loved ones, creating a safe and loving home, and watching his family grow and succeed gave Mr. Clifton his deepest fulfillment. As a result, Mr. Clifton enriched the lives of all who knew him and made a meaningful difference in this world. Mr. Clifton will forever be remembered by his unwavering work ethic, quiet strength, and deep love for his family.

Mr. Clifton is survived by his wife of 48 years, Margaret Hawks Clifton of the home; two sons, Richard Nash Clifton Jr. (Marlene) of Orlando, Florida and Dwayne Clifton (Jacinda) of Stuart; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis A. Thomas of Vesta; one brother-in-law, Bobby Hawks (Nancy) of Galax, VA; nieces and nephews.

The funeral for Mr. Clifton will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastors Shannon Hicks, Lonnie Hylton, and Roland McCraw officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to The Vesta Community Club, c/o Patricia Wilson, 132 Stella Ln, Meadows of Dan, VA.
