A Stuart resident was sentenced to life in prison in connection with 2015 and 2016 incidents.
James Clifford Tilley is appealing the January sentence to spend 99-plus years in jail, according to records in the Patrick County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office.
Tilley was arrested in June, shortly after being indicted on two counts of aggravated sexual battery and one count each of child abuse/neglect, indecent liberties and sodomy.
He also was indicted on two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Both counts were dismissed during his October trial, court records showed.
Tilley entered a not guilty plea when his trial started in October, according to court records.
Jurors returned with a guilty verdict, and a presentence report was ordered.
Tilley next appeared in court on January 19, according to court records. He was sentenced to life in prison, reports showed. Court records state that the case is being appealed.
