Lorene Belton Hazlewood

Lorene Belton Hazlewood, age 92, of Stuart passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 27, 2025. She was born February 16, 1933, in Patrick County to the late Walter Rucker Belton and Mary Lucinda (Mollie) Rakes Belton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Preston Hazlewood; a brother, Jack Belton; three sisters, Evelyn Hazlewood, Edith June Cox, and Mary Jane Harris; half-sister, Mabel Light; and three half-brothers, George, James, and Eugene Belton.

Mrs. Hazlewood was a member of the Big A Church of Christ for 74 years. She was a master seamstress for years, creating beautiful work for countless families throughout the county. Her skill, patience, and eye for detail touched lives in ways that will long be remembered. She retired with over 30 years of service from J.P. Stevens Corp.

She is survived by a son, Steve Hazlewood (Angel); two daughters, Melanie Culler (Gerald), and Kim Sheppard; a sister, Pat Tolson (Bruce); seven grandchildren, John Laprad (Amber), Andrea Sheppard, Joshua Hazlewood, Chase Hazlewood, Kaitlyn Hicks (Joshua), Kylene Parsley (Hank), and Brandon Wilson (Ashley); seven great-great grandchildren, Declan Sheppard, Dayton Pack, Ainsley Parsley, Lillian Laprad, Olivia Laprad, Ellie Comer, Judith Wilson; and endless amount of nieces and nephews and their families that she loved dearly.

Funeral service for Mrs. Hazlewood will be held Monday, September 29, 2025 at 12:00 P.M. at Big A Church of Christ with Sam Crews and Alan Caudle officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mt.
