For much of the match, the Patrick County Lady Cougars and Glenvar Lady Highlanders traded points and momentum in a tightly contested three-set match. Despite early leads and late rallies, the Lady Cougars couldn’t hold off Glenvar, who edged ahead late in each set to win the September 23 matchup.
The teams traded leads in the first set, with the Lady Cougars leading by four early, 8-4, then falling behind by three at 12-15. They would battle back, tying Glenvar at 19-19. Neither team could hold the lead, remaining tied at 23-23 before the Lady Highlanders closed out the set, 23-25.
Neither team was able to go up more than three points in back-and-forth action in the second set. Tied at 18-18, Glenvar went on a 4-1 run, pulling away to a 19-22 lead, and taking the set 20-25.
In the third set, Glenvar took a quick 0-3 lead, only to have the Lady Cougars catch them, at 7-7. Still tied at 11-11, Glenvar took advantage of several Lady Cougar near misses to retake the lead, 13-19. For the rest of the set, the teams swapped points, keeping the lead at 6, finishing 19-25.
Jayden Callahan led the way for the Lady Cougars with 12 kills, 2 blocks and 15 digs. Camille Gonzalez had 26 assists and 15 digs, while Journey Moore added 11 kills, 16 digs and 3 aces.
