Mr. Raymond Boyd Wells, III, age 80 of Woolwine, Virginia, passed away at The Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in Stuart on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. He was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, on February 5, 1945, to the late Raymond Boyd Wells, Jr., and Katherine Kelberer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Sue Wells. Raymond retired from the United States Navy with 20 years of service. He was a founding member of the Smith River Rescue Squad and dedicated many years to running calls with E.M.S. One of his proudest accomplishments was becoming a registered nurse. He worked at the hospital in Patrick County and Martinsville. He was a truly remarkable man, both intelligent and caring. He had an abundance of hobbies, a jack of all trades. Raymond was dedicated to his community and his family.

Left to cherish the memories of Mr. Wells are his beloved wife of 62 years, Bessie Lou Dough Wells; two children, Traci Sims (Curtis) of Woolwine and Raymond Boyd Wells, IV (Susan) of Charity; three grandchildren, Jacob Sims (Dianne), Jerry Wells (Ashley), and Zander Wells (Teddy Jo Boatman); four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; close family friend, Marvin Elgin of Woolwine; and many cousins.

A celebration of life memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Smith River Rescue Squad, Smith River Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 122, Woolwine, VA 24185.
