Mountain Top Party Line

The last weather system brought us snow, sleet and freezing rain. A lot of folks were without power. I was kept busy firing the wood stove and we kept our power in my area.
I’m bragging on my neighbors again. Thanks to Brain Ratliff for checking on me and giving me a gift certificate to Elizabeth’s Pizza—and to Larry Martin for treating me to lunch at the Mexican restaurant. Thank you!
I was so sorry to hear of the death of Patricia Fain. I had just seen her a few days ago. Sometime ago, Patricia gave me a cookbook from her church, and I will treasure it forever. My love and heartfelt sympathy go out to the family. “Sandy Man” kind of loves going out in the snow for awhile, but he also enjoys lying by the wood stove.
I had the cutest card from Leroy and Jackie Spencer. It had a dog on front that looks just like Sandy Man. Thank you.
The Nelons gave a great concert at Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church on Sunday night.
A Valentine banquet was held at Patrick Springs Pentecostal on Valentine’s Day and was a big success—and the proceeds went to the church bus fund. Food was prepared by Teresa Martin and Gloria Biggs and, as always, it was delicious. There were waiters and waitresses and a lot of helpers; just like eating in a restaurant with good service.
Neighbor Teresa Martin took me to visit the Roberts family, and I got to meet Lucky the Dog. Then we visited Thelma Wilson in the hospital. She looked really good and was her usual sweet self, and we had a nice visit with her.
Then we visited Helen Shough and she was so sweet. She held our hands, smiled, and even spoke some. “Mr. Dewey” was there. What a sweet couple. Also, it was nice to see Mabel Stowe, who is looking good at 96 years.
Then I went on to help Linda and Michael get the God’s Pit Crew food ready for the Food Ministry. It was a good day, but I was a bit tired at the end of the day.
Please put Gene Trent on your prayer list. He isn’t feeling well at this time.

CORNED BEEF
AND CABBAGE
1/2 cup chopped onion
2 Tbsp. hot fat
3 cups shredded cabbage
1 (12-ounce) can corned beef
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 cup water
Sauté onion in hot fat. Stir in remaining ingredients. Cover and cook 6 to 8 minutes.
Something for these cold winter nights: 1 gallon of apple cider, 2 cups orange juice, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 5 cinnamon sticks. Put apple cider and orange juice in a pot. Heat to almost boiling. Add brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Add cinnamon sticks. Simmer 10 minutes. Serve warm.

Food for thought
“Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of its strength.” These are the words of Corrie ten Boom.

This young man is Landon Tyler George. Doesn’t he have a nice smile? Perhaps you have seen him around with The Southern Prophets singing group.
