Republican candidates in state races outstripped their Democratic counterparts among Patrick County voters, with Winsome Earle-Sears earning 77.55 percent of the ballots cast in her race for governor against Abigail D. Spanberger’s 22.37 percent, according to https://enr.elections.virginia.gov/results.
Spanberger was declared the winner in the state race, with 55.8 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results at 8:30 p.m.
In the contest for Lieutenant Governor, John J. Reid, II easily won the majority of local ballots against Ghazala F. Hashmi, with 78.93 percent to the 20.90 percent cast for Hashmi, according to unofficial results online.
Hashmi was declared the state winner with 53.24 percent of the ballot to Reid’s 46.76 percent.
With 79.75 percent of the local vote, incumbent Attorney General Jason S. Miyares handily beat Democratic challenger Jay C. Jones, who picked up 20.10 percent of the vote.
Jones was declared the winner of the statewide contest, with 51 percent of the vote to Miyares’ 49 percent as of 8:30 p.m.
In the 47th District House of Delegates race, Wren M. Williams, incumbent, soundly defeated challenger Yvonne M. Rorrer, Williams garnered 76.13 percent of the vote to the 23.10 percent cast for Rorrer, unofficial results indicate.
Williams also won the district wide race, with 74.87 percent of the ballot to the 24.74 percent Rorrer received, unofficial online information indicates.
In the Smith River District race for the Patrick County Board of Supervisors, Richard Martin Swink, Jr. garnered 72.20 percent of the vote to the 26.87 percent received by Malcolm Roach, according to unofficial results online.
“I wish him well and hope people are pleased with his performance,” Roach said.
Swink did not respond to requests for comments Tuesday night.
Andrew T. Overby, an incumbent who was unopposed in his race for the Dan River District seat on the Patrick County Board of Supervisors, received 98.77 percent of the votes, unofficial results show.
Also unopposed in their respective bids for the Dan River and Smith River districts on the Patrick County School Board were incumbents Robert S. “Rob” Martin, who garnered 98.50 percent of the ballot, and Walter L. Scott, who received 96.88 percent of the votes, according to unofficial results on the state website.
