Ryan Pendleton, a dedicated government and history teacher at Patrick County High School, was presented with the Colonel George Waller Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Teacher of the Year Award on January 14. Pendleton, now in his 29th year of teaching, has also served as the school’s baseball, golf, and boys’ and girls’ basketball coach, and has coached softball for the past several years.
In addition to the Teacher of the Year recognition, Mr. Pendleton was awarded the Bronze Good Citizenship Medal—specifically acknowledging his contributions as an educator. Commissioned in 1895, the Bronze Good Citizenship Medal is given by the SAR to individuals who have made significant contributions to their school, community, or state. This award, tied to Mr. Pendleton’s role as an exceptional teacher and mentor, underscores the SAR’s commitment to honoring individuals whose work exemplifies patriotism, leadership, and service.
The ceremony emphasized the importance of education in fostering civic responsibility and celebrated Mr. Pendleton’s profound impact on his students and the broader school community.
