Jason Edward Harris, age 72 of Stuart passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 9, 2026.  He was born in Stuart, VA on January 27, 1954 to James E. Harris Sr. and Clynda Bowling Harris.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, J.E. Harris Jr. and Vernon Harris; brothers-in-law, Lonnie Dillon and Jeff Gibson.

Mr. Harris had been involved in the logging and the lumber business for over 30 years, owning Mayo River Lumber Company.  He learned to play the guitar at 13 years of age and continued to enjoy playing and singing bluegrass music, having placed twice in band competitions at the Old Galax Fiddlers Convention, and made so many friends through his music.  He loved his visits to Howell’s Grocery and chatting with all his friends there, often times occupying the seat by the door “in charge of security” as he always said.  He loved his classic car collection and had deep appreciation for all classic cars, continuing to keep his very first car he bought when he was a teenager.  He loved spending time in his “toy barn”, often times sitting on the front porch looking out over the property especially during the warm days.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years Kimberly Tatum Harris of the home; two sisters, Bonnie Dillon of Stuart and Wanda Gibson of Kill Devil Hills, NC; sister-in-law, Linda Harris of Stuart; brother-in-law, Richard Tatum (Mary) of Stuart; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and his beloved pup, Emily.

A memorial visitation will be held Sunday, April 12, 2026 from 2:00 until 4:00 at Moody Funeral Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Francis Service Dogs, 8232 Enon Drive, Roanoke, VA 24019, telephone number, 1-540-342-3647.  Online condolences may be made by visiting www.moodyfuneralservice.com.
